It ain’t about the org, surely

There’s been a lot written over the past week of what Kivi Leroux Miller calls, The Accidental Rebranding of Komen for the Cure.

I won’t go into the issue at hand, Kivi summarises the situation brilliantly.

But I was taken aback by the comments of Komen’s CEO Nancy Brinker who released a video statement about the situation. When defending the actions the organisation had taken to review its grant giving process, she outlines very clearly who the decisions were made for.

The organisation, donors, and not until she gets into discussing their mission does she mention the most important people here. The people with whom every decision during this process should have been made with them front of mind. Their beneficiaries.
